Canadian Minister of Transport Marc Garneau announced today that Canada would extend the ban on cruise ships until October 31, 2020. This announcement will end any hopes of a shorter cruise season this year with stops in Canadian ports. This ban also includes passenger vessels that carry more than 12 persons from entering Arctic coastal waters, including Nunatsiavut, Nunavik, and the Labrador Coast.
This years season has come to abrupt halt due to Covid-19, which normally bring over 600 cruises to the Alaskan market and in 2020 was expected to bring a record 1.44 million passengers to the region. This ban will also affect Northeastern cruises which normally stop in Boston, and Bar Harbor, Marine.
